Sony FilmStation Review

The Sony FilmStation is a DICOM printer that provides medical facilities with a fast and economical way to print x-rays, CTs and MRIs, mammograms and ultrasounds.  This DICOM printer may be used at a clinical workstation in order to print the digital medical images that have been captured and enhanced by your medical equipment and software.  With its dicom connectivity, your printer will be able to print out digital medical images from a variety of capture modalities with ease.

By using design strategies that take into account decreased office sizes, the Sony film station, a dry film imager, is equipped to fit into even the smallest of radiology rooms.  Because it is designed for use in either the horizontal or vertical positions, you will have a great deal of flexibility in positioning it in your office work environment.  Desktop use or placement under a desk is possible because of the unit's compact size.

The Sony FilmStation utilizes a new type of film, known as blue thermal film, model UPT-517BL.  The blue thermal film comes in the fourteen inch by seventeen inch size, and it enables excellent resolution of digital medical images due to the density and transparency balance provided.  Additional protection is given to the all-important printer head, which idles in park mode, especially useful if you will be using the printer in a mobile environment.  Complete image coverage is possible due to the printer's edge-to-edge printing feature.

The quality of resolution is unsurpassed for medical dry film imagers.  Providing you with 4,096 shades of gray, you will have the high resolution in your medical images that you need for accurate diagnoses.  Superior black levels and contrast ratio are provided by a greater than 3.2 maximum density rating.

Because the unit has a Dicom interface built in, it can be used with a laptop computer running on Windows with Internet access.  Technical problems will be brought to your attention via convenient email notification.

Storage of digital medical images has also been enhanced in the Sony film station.  Providing a seven-gigabyte hard drive, this DICOM printer can store up to 1,112 digital medical images.

In addition, the Sony film station will automatically calibrate for you, or you can easily access full calibration features on the front panel controls.  Gamma settings can be programmed or default fixed at your choice.    With all the flexible and cost-effective printing choices offered by this printer, it is no wonder that it is a top pick of hospitals, medical offices and imaging centers.
